'Having Fun' and 'Feeling Safe' go hand in hand, the health and safety of our students has always been of prime importance. Stansfeld takes these responsibilities very seriously; we have very clear procedures for ensuring the safety and care of all of our visitors. All Outdoor Learning Centres operate to Birmingham City Council Guidelines for Health and safety related to:

• fire safety
• travel and transport
• premises
• equipment and resources
• statutory testing
• health and safety in the work place.  

We review and update annually our standards and guidelines published both by Birmingham City Council and the Department for Children, Schools and Families.

To ensure the safety of the students using the centre we

•  
• only use Risk Assessed field sites, activities and buildings (available on this website, see links under the H&S tab)
• only use experienced and appropriately qualified staff leading groups (all such staff have been through a CRB check and hold current first aid certificates)
• run a 24 hour duty system with staff 'on call.'
• have restricted access external doors
• have regular head counts both during fieldwork and in the Centre
• through Birmingham City Council have robust personnel systems for the appointment, induction and monitoring of staff, including checking of all appropriate qualifications, references and criminal records
• run comprehensive induction and training for health and safety issues
• have Public liability insurance cover for your peace of mind.
• Only use safe vehicles meeting current requirements, such as passenger seat belts and head restraints and have fully trained drivers
• The children are issued with suitable clothing.  These are to ensure the children stay protected from the elements.
